I've been wondering this for awhile...what exactly is WOT? First thing that occurs to me is...wide open throttle? Is that right? Lol.

Thanks guys.

Alright thanks, good to know.

I guess I still just have to get used to the car. I do wonder how long that's been completely tightened though...

It's not that the car is revving in gear and not moving...it's just that it tends to get very high in the rpms before it will shift(and then only shift after the gas is let off of...)...and just during spirited driving I suppose. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from this normal auto transmission?

I tried checking the transmission fluid...bear with me I'm very new to this. I pulled out the dipstick and there's a "cool" line at the bottom, and a "hot" marker a bit farther up. The last time the car was run was last night, almost 24hours ago, so the engine was cold. The fluid was up past both of these markers, almost covering the "Dexron III" indentation. Is that normal?

Thanks.
So if you just floor it and don't take your foot off the gas pedal, are you just redlining in 1st gear? Seems odd to me, I'm sure it would eventually shift. Just later than you would think/hope/like it to. When I'm merging from a dead stop (plenty of those kinds of on-ramps here in Hawaii) I can't help but floor it. The only car I really have to be careful is with my aunt's Avalon with the 2GR-FE. The torque steer takes some getting used to! Gotta put some stickier tires on that thing

Anyway.. I find it hard to check the oil and transmission fluid on some cars because when you pull the dipstick out it just smears all over. You have to do it a certain way so it doesn't do that. You might as well just go ahead and do a drain/refill at the very least. Dexron III is cheap. I suggested a drain/refill of my friend's Corolla so she did it this weekend. Immediate difference in shift quality and responsiveness. She was really proud of herself and started telling everyone. All I did was supervise. Ha ha ha - but more so, she was surprised at the difference it made.

I still need to do a drain/refill on the gen 3.5. I couldn't get the damn bolt off this past weekend! Stupid service station who last changed the fluid out, overtightened it! I was just very inclined to do it after doing it on my gen 5.5 with great results.

Nah, the trans fluid was changed within the past few years and less than 4K miles per year are put on the car. The fluid is still in good shape and the trans shifts buttery smooth.

I don't believe the first gear is so bad..... i think if it was realy bad they were broken alot often. The gear is made to move trailers/caravans ....the momentum is then alot higher .

I have the same issue with the gear box.....these days i shift manual (with the gear stick). And it is a whole diffrent car

(sorry for my bad english)

Haha your english is fine!

And yeah, I'll think about changing the fluid. Hadn't thought of that...and it's probably been awhile since it was last changed. Should I run anything through it before I drain it...some kind of transmission repair or something? I see so many of those sitting at pep boys.

EDIT: To be honest...I'm not exactly sure what the "differential" does, but I was reading the other thread where the guys differential fluid hadn't been changed, and that ended up blowing. Should I look into changing differential fluid when I change the transmission fluid? Not quite sure where that is or how to change the fluid, but this whole thing is a learning process for me
