3rd Generation New '93 SE Struts needed; help!

Hi, everyone.

I have a '93 SE, 5-speed manual trans, V-6. I need new rear struts; it has the originals on it, and at 155,00 miles they're tired. What aftermarket replace the SE struts? They're different than the LE or XLE, so the Forum hasn't been clear on replacements. Or, do I have to use Toyota's? Do the aftermarket have such a different feel, too, that they'll be incompatible with the OEM front struts? Eventually I want to replace all four, but that cost is too much of a bite right now. And really, the handling of an SE with OEMs is pretty good anyway with the stiffer springs. But I really hate paying for Toyota's overpriced bits.

Thanks, you Toy-heads!

drive laughing!

My SE has Tokicos, and I like them much better that the KYB's on my LE...I'm pretty sure the SE struts are the same as LE's or XLE's...the difference u feel is related to the SE's bigger rear sway bar.

I say go with tokicos blue's....but I'd save and do all 4 at the same time.

3rd Generation

I also have Tokico's on my 93 V6 SE as well, and I enjoy the ride quality, just wish I had tires with a little more sidewall..

You might want to research further, but I read somewhere that the SE struts were the same as the ES300's for those years. I don't know how much truth there is to that, though.

3rd Generation Toyota says...

...The SE struts are different than the LE or XLE. They're sealed, too, and cost $175.00 just for the strut. Each.

Annudder mail-order place said they can get me OEM struts for $81.63 ea. Can they do that: get real Toyota struts for so much less?

Thanks, guys.
