erratic idle

I have a gen 3 camry with a 4 cylinder engine. When I start the car, it revs up to 3,500 rpm. Then the idle fluctuates between 1,000 and 2,000 rpm. Any ideas what the problem could be?

In addition to cleaning the idle air control valve and the throttle body, check for a vacuum leak.

When I start my engine (3VZ-FE) it revs up to 2000rpm and than goes down to 900rpm. is that normal?

Camry-rules, is it exactlly at 2K, because normla spped RPMS are around 1800 through approx. 2 Grand, and then gradually decrase it about 900 RPMS then yes that seems to be normal

Jerry 3.5K RPMS something is lose you can also check you Exhuast Recirculation Gas System you maybe be getting too much exhaust gases during idle entering the cylinders maybe, im not sure
