v6, exhaust problem... i think

hi everyone
i have a 2000 v6, i made an exhaust system without a catalytic converter and i made a hole for the sensor after the catalytic converter... so the car should work fine and the check engine signal shouldn't appear right?

after 5 hours of driving, the signal appeared!
i took the battery off for a couple of minutes then i pluged it back, the signal was off... fife hours later it appeared again!!!

what's the problem? how can i fix it (without having to use a catalytic converter)? and will this affect the car's performance by altering the ignition timing??

thanks

note : after the exhaust system the car lost 4 seconds going from 0 to 110mph... AWSOME

Of course its affecting your car, your car is tellign you somethings wrong. The Second O2 sensor is to read the amounts of oxygen that passes through your cat, but since you dont have any it seems to be saying the cat isnt doing its job but you dont have one so the senors is doing its job...you either find a way to fool the ecu or find something else that can help...
