Noob question on tranny oil

Hi fellow, I dont think i ever checked the tranny oil for like over 5000 miles. My dad just remind me that the tranny need to be oil checked as frequent as engine oil ...

So, how and where do i add more tranny oil ? I hope i can have somebody make a DIY (WITH PICTURES) thread about this as i couldn't find it ...

Thank you,

You add more trans fluid right into the trans dipstick tube. If your trans fluid has a red color, it's still good. If it's a brownish color it's used up, and should be changed a.s.a.p. If it's black, it's too far gone, and there may be some trans damage. I usually change my trans fluid every 3rd oil change.

And don't forget the differential, which also uses trans fluid.

My Tundra does not even have a dipstick for the auto tranny. There is really no need to check it unless you see leaks.

Even if the trans isn't leaking, on older vehicles the all fluids must be checked at least once a month. Remember, nothing lasts forever. All the fluids in your car will eventually need to be changed. Don't wait until there is a problem to check the condition of the fluids. IMO spending 10mins once every month to check the fluids is very cheap insurance.
