best way to pull the transaxle

Any thoughts on which way is better to pull the trans axle on a 93 camry auto 4 cylinder? The toyota manual says to go out the bottom/side after removing the subframe. The Haynes manual says to pull the engine and trans together then split it. Neither way looks to be much fun, just wondering how others have done with this job.

i am planning to pull out my trans axle on my 1993 camry DX 4cyl as well, i am hoping i can just separate the engine and trans axle, then lift it up from top, or push it aside. my goal is to change the flywheel, clutch disc, clutch plate, clutch bearing, and rear main seal.
