Radiator / Coolant hoses......(and stuff)......

So, I'm trying a new mechanic out. I recently had a leak that I thought might be rear-main seal, but originally they said my trans pan and rear-diff cover were leaking....(I blame regular flushing, but that's just me)....so I let them do both......($300, but that includes new flush, drop both covers and diff is a PITA, including any filters, magnets, plugs, etc. and refill).

Well, as expected they called me to tell me that my valve cover gasket is leaking in the back and running down on my heater core hoses which would cause they to swell & burst. OK, I get what he's saying, but I've NEVER replaced a heater-hose in my life before, so I figured I'd let it ride.

I told them to replace the valve cover gasket ($50 gasket, $80 labor) 'cuz it's hotter than heck out today and I'm just too old & tired anymore) but they wanted another FIVE-HUNDRED-FLIPPING-DOLLARS to change out ALL coolant hoses (including heater/rear) and backflush/fill.

I told them NO FREAKING WAY!!! I told them to clean the back well once they've replaced the valve cover gasket and don't change ANY hoses. I'll change the front upper/lower if they look bad to me.

This is the 2nd valve cover gasket replace I've had done (Toyota did the first one at 92,000 and it's at 147,000 now)

Any opinions??

TIA
