Turns over but won't fire, been reading other posts... where is the stickied manual?

Hey all,

been reading 93 camry cranks continuously, won't fire
and My 3rd Gen Camry will not start. HELP

I have the same prob. 4cyl engine won't fire. Just cranks and cranks. We checked the fuses, plugs, and changed the fuel filter.

It seems like the coil in the distributer has been a likely culprit in the past, but I can't find the stickied manual that is supposed to show how to do it.

Anything else I can try?

update: we took off the distributer cap and ther was a maroon triangle type thing (the rotor?) which spinned when we tried to turn the car on-- i take it this is what i was looking for? which means the timing belt is ok?

we also put our ear next to the tank to listen for the pump. its wierd, we didn't really hear anything, but we live in a high noise threshold area. We undid the top hse of our newly installed fuel filter (which was empty when we installed it) and it spewed gas at us--which makes me think the pump is working.

now--what reading am i looking for on the dvm and where to I check?

another update: we got to looking at that rotor that sticks out of the distributer and it was black and corroded so we brushed it up and put it back on. still wont start, nor are we getting sparks

I have still yet to test the voltage of the coil in the distributer as I am not sure what I am looking for.

Any ideas?

Go get a new rotor, they are cheap, and what about the spark plugs, when were they last changed?
You should also get a new distributor cap (plug wires are attached to it and the rotor usually comes with this), very easy to change and could be the problem. Once the points are worn down you can start to have problems.

Hope this helps.

Correct, the timing belt is intact.

Most of the time when you have a no spark condition, the coil is the problem. You need to download that manual and follow the procedure to check it. Also, remove it and looks for cracks. Many times they develope harline cracks and short themselves out on to any metal inside the distributor. You can get an aftermarket coil for around $40. It's not too hard to replace.
