So, I own a v6 avalon, and i figured it would be better to post here on what you guys may think the best like bang for buck would be on this engine. im not looking to spend supercharger money.. (yet) but something like less then 150/200 bucks.. would an exhaust system give me noticeable power or just sound.. what would be the best things to do with my little amount of money? I might be building my own cai however.. unless i can find a nice deal on one already built. thanks. also, does anyone know if a camrys exhaust system fit on a 97 avalon?
Depending on how you've kept up with routine maintenance, you might also consider spending it on a tune up. I spent $50 for 8 quarts of Toyota Type T-IV transmission fluid and did two drain/refills and my car feels so much better. Your Avalon probably needs Dexron III which is much cheaper, so even more so I would do it.
Other than that, I'm not up to date on what kind of cheap mods you could do. I've been focusing more on getting fluids changed - oh and I put new tires on both the gen 3.5 and 5.5. Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S. BEST money ever spent, definitely transformed the car. Not sure that's a "mod" but it made a world of difference.

custom Y-pipe. that is the best engine/exhaust mod for the money hands down.
true... the stock y-pipe has plenty of faults. but your not gonna get much for only 200 bucks. I mean your gonna want to suck more air let the engine breath out exhaust better, but if you want you could get an old safc off ebay for like 90 bucks and an aftermarket intake( I think you have the dual throttle body in your avolon. and they're 1 and a 1/4 inch each in diameter) off a dodge stealth N/A( this will fit the dual throttle body). that'll give you a gain....(I think I can't remember what my car used to feel like .)

i believe his engine should be identical to ours and only the es300 had dual TBs. thats why when you see the TRD s/c listed its for the camry/solara/sienna/avalon.
Those people selling car parts on ebay are just a bunch of idiots sitting behind computer. Don't ask and dont trust watever they answer (incase u asked already), do ur own research and expect a retro fit job.
I sell stuff on E-bay.. I wasn't talking about e-bay crap. I meant used good quality stuff.

alrightt so i don't want to spend a lot of money on a flashy air intake (weapon r cpe or w/e just cuz the power notice will be like nothing) where would i even be able to get a custom y pipe? theres noo way ill be able to make my own (im not that knowledgable on cars) and a camry one should be able to fit right on right? how much would a custom y pipe cost too? and sorry if im very noobish but i dont know much about the car yet but i doo love it =] and btw samarai i LOVE your car. i saw it on cardomain once randomly and giggled about the wing until i saw your engine lol. i love it.

Well thank you.. for your question they don't make any after market y pipe for the camry. they don't make anything for the camry; performance wise except intake(ram, or cold air intake aka CAI)
What you can do is go to a muffler and ask them to help you out( I know guys at muffler shop but they don't ever charge me anything more than cost; Friends, huh!) It shouldn't cost more than 200 bucks. I know that sounds off but they specailize in welding mandrel bent pipe( thats what you want, mandrel bent) and it as easy as one lift, 6 bolts, and 2 o2 sensors to get off. not a lot of work. tell them you want to keep your y-pipe flanges that bolt up to the exhaust manifold and bump everything up to 2 and half inches. should take them more than an hour to make.
around here they charge you 11 bucks for every weld they have to make, and fifteen bucks for a gas weld, which is stonger and looks better( thats how I made my up-pipe to my turbo, if you saw page 3 on my cardomain site). most places will sell you aluminzed steel mandrel bends and charge you 304, 409 stainless steel prices, which can be 1/3 more cost. so always ask, it's your car and you should always know.ask for them to use aluminized steel mandrel bends( thats what my down-pipe is made of).

thanks for the info samarai, i'll probably go like weds/thurs to a muffler shop and ask them how much they would charge if i did that, any more like information i should tell them other then just make evthing 2.5" and alumnized steel mandrel bends?? also, how much louder will the car end up being? i don't want it TOO loud, but idc if i hear it a little bit.. do you know like an estimate of how much more power i may get?? just curious =]
Y pipe will definitely be the best bang for the buck mod you can do at this point. Just ask them to cut the flat section of the pipe before your cat out and weld new round pipe in, if the shop tries to talk you out of it that means they don't understand so shop around for the right shop to do the job.
