3vz-fe oil filter adapter

Im wondering if the oil HAS to be drained from the car to replace the oil filter adapter o-ring? I realize there might be oil left in the filter, but that would be minimal loss. I REALLY want to replace that o-ring to stop my oil leak onto my exhaust. I dont want my car to catch fire and im tired of it smokin' at stop lights!

Any help would be awesome!

Not up on this engine but don't most adapters just unscrew after the filter is removed. The adapter is above the oil level in the pan.

Yeah, well on this engine I think you can leave the oil filter on the adapter and just remove the adapter, because the adapter is different.

Im guessing you are right with the oil level thing. Guess Ill just try it and see?

Another thing to look at. Have you checked your pcv lately? I replaced mine, and the leak I was having on the oil filter adapter stopped. Seems it was pretty crapped up and thus caused the pressure to build forcing oil out past the seal on it. Since replacing it, I've not had the problem.

I just replaced a nasty pcv valve as well, definitely running better, not sure if it has helped with any oil leaks. Also if oil is leaking onto your exhaust manifold it could be your valve cover gaskets (mine are in need of being replaced as well). Is oil leaking onto the manifold or down pipe?

Mines leaking onto the downpipe, so I know it's the seal that im about to replace. Im also going to be replacing the valve cover gaskets, spark plug tube gaskets, spark plugs, and plenum gasket. Ill probably go ahead and replace the PCV at the same time, since it's so cheap.

Oh, and Im going to replace the distributor o-ring too.

Same place mine was. Have the o-ring and everything for it, but haven't needed to as of yet to replace it as it stopped leaking with the new PCV in place. Valve covers I want to do, not so much because they're leaking, but because I know they're brittle and don't want any problems. So while I'm at it, want to put in new plugs and wires at the same time.
