Unhappy Nubee needs help - UPDATE!

I have a 99 Camry LE V6

Just yesterday leaving work, start the car, won't idle and stalls. If you keep on the gas it runs, as soon as you let off the gas RPM's drop and it stalls.

Tow truck driver says it's the Idle Control Valve

Need you pros to help, now I am stuck with no car for my 3 day weekend

Thanks in advance.
Oh, also, are there any service manuals floating around this site for this car? Thanks again!

if you give it gas and then start driving will it be fine?? mine had that. it was a sticky idle control valve if i remember correctly. open up the throttle and spray some cleaner in there and use a toothbrush or towel/w.e to clean it up and if you do it right it should be better.

No work done recently, what is a maf sensor? I also don't know where these items are located. Where is the maf sensor and the icv, so I can check/clean them?
Thanks!

Yeah, definitely sounds like the idle air control. Had a similar problem on an Accord. I drove it about 10miles in city traffic using my right foot to idle the engine and throwing it in neutral to keep it idling at stop lights. Gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.

Someone posted instructions on how to clean it here once. Go search for it.

Ok Update!! So I tried to start the car again, it starts but would not idle at all. SO I just warmed it up. Then following the directions I found in this forum (I love forums!) I undid the whatever you call it, and sprayed Sea Foam inside. Had my daughter step on the gas peddle which opened it up. Waited a few minutes, used a toothbrush and cleaned it a little. Then I started the car again, revved it a few times, then it would idle but very low. So I opened it back up sprayed some more Sea Foam, waited, started the car again and it worked!! It revved itself at about 1300, and as it warmed it dropped to the proper rpm! Drove it around the block, runs fine now.

THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU!!!

The fix cost me $7 for the can of Sea Foam! If it wasn't for places like this and people like you I am sure it would have cost closer to $100.

When you removed the large tube leading to the throttle body you should have seen a square or diamond shaped port in the base of the throttle body. That port leads to the idle air control valve. Make sure you sprayed the stuff liberally down in to that port. If not, with the engine off, remove the big tube again and spray it liberally down in to that port. Then let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then put everything back together and restart the engine. It may be a bit hard to start and it may idle rough again for a few minutes, as you burn off this extremely rich fuel mixture. Then it will smooth itself out as the cleaner is burned away. Directing the cleaner in to the passage leading to the idle air control valve should help keep the problem from coming back in the near future.

Thanks Mike, I will do that, it was hard to see in there, I will use my flashlight and check it out. So far so good, it is still running ok.

I've had a similar phenomena happen with my 95 Camry, the car comes off of highway driving with a forced valve opening- no problems there, but starts to sputter when I let off of the gas pedal on an off ramp. eventually dies at stoplight.

How do I get to the idle air control valve to clean it? I can pick up some sea foam cleaner. Is it on the air box? also, is the stuff just called "sea foam" cleaner?

It is very easy to get to, search the forum, there is a post about it with pictures.
Yes, it is called Sea Foam Deep Creep, you wil find it over where the carb cleaners are in any auto parts store.

Good luck!
