Evap System/VsV Noise problem

Hi, for a year or so I've had a problem with a hi pitched EEEEEEE sound coming from the rear of the car, not fuel pump, rather Vacuum switching valve area at neutral throttle position. Forty mph, no load throttle, eeeeeee, add throttle or release throttle, noise gone. Parked, idle engine at 2000 rpm, eeeeee. Service manager tried to tell me it was ring gear and pinion! This was before problem progressed to being able to hear it at 2000 rpm parked. Boy do I need help!

Thanks...

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Could be leading to or from the VSV. It might be the VSV itself. You could isolate various components. Disconnect (it wouldn't hurt to plug it also or use a tube crimper real close to the VSV) the line leading away from the VSV and see if it goes away. If it does then it's something downstream of the VSV. If not, disconnect the line leading into the VSV (same notes) and see what happens. If it still is making the noise the VSV is pretty much exonerated and it is something upstream of the VSV. If it does go away you'll need to inspect the VSV closely. If you can get a junkyard VSV cheap you could just swap them out and see if the noise goes away or changes.
