continuous high idle on cold start

Its a v6 camry, and lately its been having an issue with the throttle. When i start the care it idles around 1300 rpms and when shifting into reverse or drive it sort of jumps, fighting me on the brakes. It continues to do this untill I reach the first stop sign, the engine is rev' ing high and fighting against my brakes.

could this be caused by a dirty throttle body or the IAC? maybe the throttle cable is bad?

its supposed to do that. You're cold-starting it, so the ECU sets the revs higher to help the engine warm up faster. The RPMs should reach normal idle levels after youve driven for a minute.

well I know its supposed to do that, but it feels like its unnaturally doing that, more so than it needs to.

Try this: Start it cold, let it sit and warm up for 10-15 minutes and see if the idle has slowed (just try it). If it hasn't by then, you have a problem. If it slows, it's acting normal and you have nothing to worry about. Just please tell me you're not one of these people that starts their car cold, and has it in gear and flooring it before the oil can even circulate!
