3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
This console crack has bothered me for a while. Our Gens are getting old, the sun has cooked our interiors for years.
It was tough finding a replacement at the Pick & Pull that, was the correct color, for a V6, (without the hand brake) or wasn't in worse shape. But finally, I found a good one!
The install is easier than u would think! First remove the shifter bezel, I used a flat head screwdriver...the red circles mark the location of the clips that hold it in place.
Next u see the two, phillips head screws connecting the two halfs of console, remove those! Their also tabs on each side, just pop em apart.
Next open the console lid, (u may have a velt liner in the bottom, I did) remove it, (its not glued) and u'll see two bolt heads 12mm. Remove those. (note: the car I removed the console from, these were 13mm)
Thats all the fasteners for the console in my 96 coupe. 4 screws?? U'd think they would be more than that. (Hell I have 19 fasteners connecting the liner to my trunk lid). Oh well, then it lifts out..those with hand brakes may have more manuvering to do.
I then, removed the OEM alarm system light panel, (snaps in) and the leather covered armrest lid and installed those on the replacement. Ez to do, 2 phillips heads holding the lid to the hinges.
Now re-install. The crack is no more. 12 bucks at the P&P, its like new again.

Nice, but did you happen to clean up under there any? My gosh man! It was filthy!
Mine was the same way. Managed to clean mine up while I had my whole interior torn out.
My wife would LOVE to have our longer center consoles, but she has a handbrake there, so it wont fit. Unless anyone has figured out HOW to make it fit! Let me know if someone knows how to get the longer center console in an I4 93 with handbrake.

Thats one thing I don't get. I have a gen 3, and I already have a handbrake. Plus I am auto right now also. So why is it that most of the time I see gen 3 auto's without a handbrake and I have one?
