another overheating problem
I've had a lot of these mainly after hours of hard driving, but the other day the engine overheated in traffic on a relatively cool day. Here is what I've found when I got home.
Engine ( IMZ-FE) cold: hydraulic fan ticking over. When I short terminals OP1 and E1 of the data link connector, the fan spins up.
Engine hot: hydraulic fan ticking (I mean literally ticking) over. When I short the terminals, the fan spins up. When I increase the engine speed, the fan does not speed up. Switching on the ac makes no difference to the hydraulic fan, but the engine speed rose to 1100 rpm.
Two other points: In traffic, the temp gauge dropped very fast if I put the heater on. Murphy's Law dictated that I could not get the engine to overheat even while idling with the ac on.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated ... the Toyota dealer says that al is well.... yeh, right.
