3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Previouse owners had the antenna broken off of my gen 3 cam, currently a jack in the box guy sits on top of whatevers left of it. The intennas not a powered one that sits on the back portion of car but instead it's loacted on the upper part of the hood of drivers side not motorized. Been looking at sites but can find it. Anyone know Where would I be able to purchase a non powered one for my car?
The base has a hex nut that comes off. You will also need to go behind the interior trunk panel and pull the electric and antenna plugs then unbolt the motor. There is also a water drain pipe going from the motor housing.
If using a non-powered unit just reconnect the antenna cable (large dia black cable). Tape over the electrical plug to keep it clean and from shorting out to frame then tie it up to the frame to keep it out of the way.
He has the one that's on the DX models, guys. It's the one located on the driver's side roof, just past the windshield (I think that's what you're talking about, I've never seen one on the hood or on the fender area).
ToRn, You should be able to order one from ebay or through an advance auto or autozone. When I had my 95 DX I had to replace mine, I ordered it online through advance auto (autozone did not show it on their site) and with shipping it might have cost me 30 dollars. It wasn't the easiest to replace, because you will need to remove the speedometer housing to get to a clip behind it that holds the antenna cable in place. It's only 2 or 3 screws to take it loose on the roof, but the trouble is feeding the cable out (make sure you tie a long string to the end of it so you can pull the new one through) and getting it back in. It's a bit more work than replacing a power antenna in the back, unfortunately. If you decide to buy one, PM me and I'll try to walk you through the steps.

Yea roof i meant lol, OK I will try autozone but the speedometer part; is it hard to remove?
Not too hard, just a few screws and a couple of plugs on the back of the speedometer; it will involve you taking off the piece that goes around the speedometer housing, though.
I wish it were as easy as the power antenna, but unfortunately that's not the case here

It took me maybe a couple of hours, but most of that was fighting with the antenna cable, feeding it out and trying to feed the new one back through. AND you'd think it would be easier because I had the string tied to it, but there were a couple of little twists that gave me a little trouble, hehe.
