need help help asap!! EGR????

recently failed smog test.To which I had code for sytem too lean bank 1. Changed o2 sensor problem solved soon after code 0401 egr flow insufficent. I changed the egr valve checked hoses and code came back. then cleaned egr modulater filter no help. I went aheah and changed the vsv behind the block and the code came right back. What else can I do to resolve this problem????

REPLACE the EGR modulator itself, not just clean the filter. Creeps228 here had the same issue. and did the SAME ecaxt things. We then replaced the Modulator, and bingo, no code. I'd say it will be the same for you, then you should be good to go for the retest.

Thanks Ill try that, I was going off of everyone else who kept saying it was the vsv. hopefully this works Gotta get this car registered.

The Modulator has a diafram in it which apparently gets sooty and clogs up, which hampers the airflow. My friend was told the same thing with the VSV, then the Valve, and the only piece left was the Modulator. We took a quick run to the dealer (they often have them in stock), and got one. I think $60. But not 100% sure. Let us know if it works. Those are the only 3 main pieces of the system.

Also verify that the hoses connecting the EGR and the modulator are clear. The bottom one on my 3SFE clogged up with carbon once.

Often, it's the loose screw between the steering wheel and the driver's seat that needs to be fixed first!

Stock 1995 Camry, 5SFE, Sedan.
