3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just had my 94 camry V6 xle (1MZFE)(53200) at the dealer for an oil change.
The little service sticker indicates next oil change@ 58200 or 4 months.
Is this a new schedule ? I always went by 3 months/3000 miles.
PLEASE HELP ! THANKS
Newer cars can have their oil changed every 5k/4 months, but I'd still have the oil changed every 3k, it's an older engine, so you don't wanna take risks...
I always went 10K with synthetic on both my 98's, which are over 100k miles. Synthetic changes at 5K, are in my opinion, unwarranted, and needlessly boost the earnings of repair shops. I've done the 10k change since Mobil1 was introduced in the mid 70's.

wanna pop open the valve cover and show if u got sludge or not?
10k miles for an oil change..i feel like that's pushing it quite a bit
No one can judge OCI unless they do oil analysis. 5k for dino should be ok depending on conditions, 10k on synth. should be ok depending on conditions. Get a $20 oil analysis + a TBN for about $10 which will tell you how the oil is performing and holding up.

I'm with EEngineer on this as well. I'm curious as to how the engine internal looks for those running Synthetic as well. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. I'm considering switching to synthetic but need a little more evidence to see if it IS worth it.
If is better than this...
Then I'll be sold on synthetics.

thank you your response. i have always wanted to go with a synthetic but always heard you have to do it from the start(brand new car) not sure if this is true. your thoughts on this or those oils they say are for older broken in engines ?

thank you for the response. your thoughts on switching to a synthetic at 52k versus doing it from the start. i have always heard it was better to use synthetics from the beginning. what about those oils that are out there that they say are made for older engines ? your thoughts ? thanks
it is mint ! i bought it with 49,800 and just did my 1st oil change at the dealer. I got so lucky finding this awesome car. no dents or rust! it will have 58K at the next oil service and wanted advice on oil change intervals and possibly switching to synthetics ? your thoughts ?
thank you
5k miles/4 months is is fine with conventional oil. This is the dealer schedule for your car. The time interval, as well as the type of driving you do also affect the oil lifespan.
Synthetic can do 10k miles. However, I live in a small city, and make a lot of short trips. So it will take me almost 2 years to put another 10,000 miles on my car. Winter, cold starts, and short trips shorten the lifespan of the oil. If I switched to synthetic I would have to change it much sooner than 10,000 miles. It's cheaper for me to use regular oil. Changing it regularly is more important than the type of oil anyways.
Anyways, I think you should check out this page. It should answer most of your questions about engine oil.
