Reverse to drive quick, bad?

I'm not too sure but is it bad for the transmission to reverse out and then while still moving backwards put it in drive? I just reverse and while still going backwards, slowly, I put it into drive and it takes a second or two to get into the drive gear. So I was just wondering was it a bad move to go in reverse and then into drive quickly and correct this by fully stopping and then put it in drive?

You are supposed to fully stop but if you are just backing out. going 1 or 2 mph and than throw it into D . Shouldn't hurt the trans very much. But if your doing some stunts going fast... that's a different story. Hope this helps.

Basically sometimes I reverse out and while pressing the break I put it in drive but its still rolling backwards and after a few seconds it goes into drive. I know I need to stop doing this but if I've done it a few times it won't hurt the tranny terribly right?

YES, the tranny HURTS terribly because of u, lol, j.k, dont worry much as my uncle do that all the times with his Tundra (that beast shift agressively though)

If u haven't blown the gear box yet, then stop what u do and drive properly, lol, this sounds like something sisters would do.

I do this a lot when I'm in a hurry... its not the best thing for the tranny mounts, but it probably won't cause any serious damage.

Wow to some of the responses.
1) Yes it's bad to do that. I'm not saying I haven't ever done it...but it IS bad.
2) It sounds like there's already something wrong, it shouldn't take 2 seconds to "get into the drive gear".
3) What's the hurry? Just come to a complete stop. Truth is, you stop anyway, so why put the extra load on your transmission to make it stop. The fastest way is like this: Reverse with enough momentum to back you up to where you need to be. Immediately shift to N. Start using your brakes to get the car to stop. Then as soon as the car is stopped pop in D, and go.

I do that with my car all the time, but I know how to keep the RPMs low enough and ease it forward to where it's not gonna hurt the clutch or tranny mounts. You can't control that with an automatic, but really if you're going slow it's not gonna hurt anything that quick.

Automatics are called "slushboxes" for a reason. That tourque converter has enough play in it that it's not gonna hurt the engine, and as long as you don't actually feel a bad jerk when it goes into gear it's not going to hurt your mounts.

Long term damage to seals and stuff in the transmission may be an issue, because you're changing the flow of fluid, which in turn fights the forward movement of the car, and puts a little extra pressure in the system. But again, not much.

This is somewhat similar, but how bad is it if I start the car and drive off immediately without letting it warm up? My friend was waiting for me to get into my car so I could follow him back home, and when I tried to drive off, the transmission kept slipping. I gave it some gas, and the RPM's climbed but the car barely moved. I believe the RPM's were idling a little below 2K, but once the car was warmed up, the transmission no longer slipped. What causes that and how bad is that in the long run?
