turtle wax to clean...windows?

Well I spent most of the day waxing my 94 LE...not the most fun thing I've ever done, but it really looks great now.

Anyways, I was noticing how waxing the tail lights and headlights gave them a noticeable clean looking gleam. So I was thinking...could you use turtle wax...to clean your windows? I'll always try Windex or things like that but there are always streaks no matter what the bottle says, and the wax seems like it would be a good idea. You'd put it on, let it dry, rub it off. Not exactly working the way it's supposed to, but you get the idea.

So I ran this past dad, and he was like NOOOOOO. He said you'd never get it completely off and it'd be hard to see through and things...so I don't know.

What do you guys think? Has anyone ever tried this? Hope this isn't tooooooo much of a stupid question.

Thanks.

you can use wax on anything ... essentially its going to have some cleaning properties, and then coat whatever youre using with a protective film -- so your windows will allow water to bead off if waxed - which some people like, but it will also cause streaking in most cases especially on the front windshield

grab an aerosol can of Invisible Glass, and a nice Microfiber cloth, and your windows will be as clean as theyve ever been!

I do it. I'm too cheap to buy rain treatment. Works the same, doesn't last anywhere near as long though.

If u r worried about it, do a quarter window first. Bud I'd just remember to use clean cloths when u r buffing off.

Hmm...yeah definitely don't want streaking on the wind shield. Will have to look into the invisible glass product. Thanks man.

EDIT: unkit, do you experience the streaking on the windshield?

Waxing windows was popular about 40 years ago, (look up glass wax) and then buffed with newspaper.

Modern car waxes like turtle wax is a combination of a abrasive, solvent, wax and lubricant, so it is able to clean the surface well and let you buff it to shine, which is perfect for glass cleaning.

The scratches and pits on the windshield will not go away because the abrasive in car wax is too fine and soft.

Just clean it with Windex (inside and out), then use Rain-X on the outside.

I agree with your dad, don't put wax on the windows. He is a wise man.

I work at a car wash. The detail manager says he puts the wax on the windows too. I did it when I waxed my car and I did not get any streaks. I only did it on the outside. I never really get streaks on the outside just on the inside. I dont use a good cloth to clean the inside though.
