Talking Custom supercharger, ideal?

Lately I've been thinking of a cheap way to add respectable performance and while both turbo-ing and getting the TRD bolt on supercharger are able to add that performance need, they are out of the question in term of affordability.

So I came up with a custom supercharger system that run off the crank/timing belt, it will spin a turbo compressor and then the compressor feeds air into the throttle body. A custom contraption gear wheel/belt to run off the main timing belt, some kind of bearing between the gear wheel and the compressor to make sure the compressor spins fast enough, a small compressor, pressure gauge are some main needed components. Tuning is as simple as finding the perfect psi (4-7). The whole wheel gear contraption and compressor can be placed in the space right behind passenger headlight. Piping is easy, as much as two bends are needed.

I'm looking at 30hp right off without any AFR tuning, push it a little and one can get away with 50 extra whp with minimal spending for equipments and of course, a bit of work is required.

What do you guys think? I'm new to this whole mechanic thing, let alone forced induction. I need some inputs. Thanks

sounds like you are wanting a procharger/vortech style supercharger.

Thanks for bringing that up, I've never seen those but they are very close, almost exactly what would be made for a Camry.

Apparently the design is simpler than I though. A compressor, two gear sets, a pulley and a housing that house all that stuff and an active oil feed system.

you could built a custom SC but it would have to be centrifigual(procharger) and in the end would prolly cost near as much as just gettin a used TRD S/C. the later 1mz's will run with no tune but ull still need fuel upgrades, especially if ya want anything over 4 psi and ull most certainly blow your knock sensor. not to mention youd have to rig up mounts and run piping. it would be a complete waste of time and money IMHO.

as said many times.... cheap-reliable-horsepower....pick 2

sounds good. I know a guy using a vortech on his v6 maxima. it seems to work well. for some reason it wont blow up @ 15 psi (huh) but I'm wiating for the clank!K-CKlanK!!klang-klank-klang.
but I never really thought of building a charger. the thing with the gearing is you'll have to have nearly forged parts and still find the ratio in the gearing and find a housing , oil feed inlet and outlet and way too much stuff!( I could keep going).
I say you but a used vertech ansd fab up some brackets like my buddy with the max. well good luck.

I think the vortech is a better idea then the TRD supercharger because you can use a intercooler after the compressor.

not like it matters in this case, the TRD charger and engine dosent become stressed untill over about 9 psi and he can surpass his 30hp easily on 4 psi and few upgrades. ull still need to do the same engine upgrades using either and the more power the more upgrades will be requiered on the tranny as well. if someone was lookin for big numbers then id agree but not in this situation.

by all means you can try, it may be a really good project. but ull have to piece it together yourself and not many people will really be able to help ya here since we have a supercharger made for us and most custom stuff is turbo. if ur hell bent on a cheap FI solution then buy glitch360s turbo kit...i dont think he has sold it yet.
