3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 2000 Camry LE 2.2L I4 and my transmission started acting very weird the other day. I'd be going down the road in Drive, and then I hear my car rev really high. I let off the gas pedal and press it again, and it'd just rev while in Drive, acting like it was in Neutral. I pulled the code yesterday and I got a P0753 (Shift Solenoid A Electrical) and P0500 (Speed Sensor 1 Open circuit or Short). I was wondering if anyone knew what I should do? Are these two connected in anyway, like if one was messing up, would it cause the other to screw up? Also, I've been having to replace some relays, so what relay, if any, runs my transmission?
Well I took it in to my mechanic today. And said he's never seen anything like it. So were gonna take it back on monday, and when he drops the pan, if theres metal in the pan, were gonna replace the transmission. If it's clean, were gonna go ahead and replace both shift solenoids. He's charging me $140, which I thought is very fair. So I'll let you know if this fixes the problem.
Well I took my car in the shop today and had them replace the shift solenoid A. It is still saying theres a short or open circuit in the shift solenoid and speed sensor. There gonna look through the harness and see if they find a break in the wires anywhere, which I doubt they will. If thats not it were gonna replace the PCM. If thats not it, were gonna replace the Speed Sensor. O boy, this should be fun. =D
Well looks like I'm just talking to myself. But I replaced the computer with a used one that had 63k miles on it, and its acting alright. Sometimes still shows that P0753 code. But only time will tell. I unhooked my system in the trunk, and its not acting up right now. So I'm wondering if my alternator just wasn't big enough. Who knows?!?! Obviously none of you do.
speed sensor I thought there where 4 one above each each disc brake
the error you got is rare I dont think many people have heard about it so dont feel too bad about no one answering
I think I had this code once I was revving my engine high to get out of snow I was stuck and the speed sensor code popped on I erased the code did not return so for my car it had something to do with that
Ya, idk it's weird. In the Hayne's repair manual, it only shows one, thats ontop of the transmission, close to the firewall. But I replaced both the Solenoid and speed sensor, and the code still came up. But I think it was because I had too small of a alternator on their, that it would shut off certain things on the car.
We checked the wiring harness for breaks in the wire, and everything was ok. We replaced the computer, and now it's only showing the shift solenoid a code. Does that wire branch off of the computer to anywhere else in the car?

the wheel speed sensor on each wheel is for ABS/traction control
there is a seperate vehicle speed sensor that feed data to ECU, speedometer on dash, which it is located on rear top of transmission i think.
The speed sensor code went away, but its the shift solenoid thats being retarded. I've replaced the solenoid, the ecm, and checked for breaks in the wiring from the solenoid to the ecm and everything checks out. I just dont know what to do. I thought maybe theres a relay or something that runs it. I've replaced the EFI and OPN CIRC relay and its still acting stupid.
