Gas Hatch Release Broke :(

The other day I went to get gas but my gas hatch wouldnt release. I tried prying it open with a screw driver but no luck. I went into the trunk and used to secondary release to open it. I discovered that the little "nub" that pulls in came come out or is broken. Like I can pull it out. I had a friend pull the release while i watched if it actually went in and out and it does, so the cable is not broken.

Has anyone encountered this before? I tried taking apart the end but I cant figure out how it comes apart.

its not the gas cap. its the little nub that releases the hatch.

There's a plastic spring on the gas door, that makes it pop open when u pull the release....I think their pretty cheap at the Stealership..I had one break on the Daughters 99....I made a spring clip out of a stainless steel large paper clip...just needed the spring tension to pop it out!

Worked fine, till she totalled it.

On my 95 sedan I can open the trunk, pull the liner away from the side and see the mechanism. I can press up where the cable connects and the door opens. No cable necessary. If the door "spring" is broken (mine has two rubber looking nubs) then you should be able to release the lock while gently pulling out on the door. (I'd use a plastic card rather than a screw driver) Until you get a spring replacement put a piece of foam between the door and the body to push the door out. (A chunck of that weather stripping with sticky on one side works OK.)
