best way to fix this little...rust spot(sorta fixed)

In the first picture, the things that looks like scratches aren't, it's just wax I definitely missed after waxing my car.

Anyway, I'm just asking about the little rust bubble there. It's not at all bad or anything, I just want to get it fixed up. It's really the only thing like it on the entire body of my car, as far as I can tell.

Thanks for input.

It looks like it's been rusted pretty deep, if it hasn't, sand it down, prime and repaint it.

If it has, you might have to put a new piece in (I would think just a patch job is fine, it's under the wheel well, unless you're really anal)

I have a spot where a lot of paint got chipped. My plan is to sand it down, prime it with some rust paint, then slap on some duplicolor. Good or bad?

Hmm. It doesn't seem too deep, but I might be wrong. In the case that it's not, just sand down, prime, repaint. Would I be able to get touch up paint somewhere? Is there a specific code for that tan color?

Thanks.

looks like surface rust. sand it down, prime, paint.

you can try grinding it with a dremel/rotary to see how bad it really is.

Yes, there are dealer colour codes for all the colours. Touch-up paint will have this colour code on it, as well as the colour name.

Whatever you do, make sure that you get some rust converter paint on the back side of it too. It looks like it's got some bubbling on it, so it could go all the way through. Either way, take care of both sides of the metal. My guess is that, since you're in Penn., the roads get salted in the winter. If that's the case, you may be in for more of the same. Good luck to you!

since you are fixing that spot, another area prone to rusting (at least on my camry) is the bottom of the doors on the inside. mine isnt noticeable from the outside, but if i squat down and look when the door is open, there is a lot of surface rust.

I'll have to check the bottoms of the doors...hadn't noticed anything, but maybe there's something I'm missing. As for living in PA...yeah, she's been driven in the salt and snow a lot, not gonna lie there. I'll keep a lookout for anymore rust.

Also, what is this rust converter paint?

Sorry, never really done any rust repair before, even something minor as this.

Thanks

Ok, so it was a little worse than I thought...

Sorry, cell phone picture. But you can see that there's a hole or two, and on the reverse side there's a big bubble. I'm not done sanding it down, just went at it with the dremel to see how bad it was.

So should I just sand it down as far as I can and go at it with bondo or...

Ok so it's fixed...sort of.

Here's the story. I attacked the bubble with the dremel, then tried to get a lot out by hand. If I got all the rust, that whole lower lip where the bubble was would have had to come off, and I didn't think I was up to repairing it. So I settled for getting most of the rust off, then I attacked it with some bondo body putty. The first application took like four hours to dry because I had to fill that hole, but the next two applications dried quicker. Then I sanded it down and applied two coats of touch up.

Our touch up paint is like 10 years old, and I noticed right away that there was a whole in the bottle. I stupidly applied it anyway, and it came out looking as rough as you see. Do they make touch up in a spray paint bottle?

Afterwards I noticed some spots I missed, so I honestly think I'm gonna strip the whole thing clean again, actually prime it and use some rust converter paint this time, THEN go through this whole process again, with some better paint.

Well..it was my first attempt. It was fun, I have to say. Haha. Too bad the job wasn't very good. And sorry that the pictures are blue, someone set my cell phone to blue and I hadn't noticed.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep you posted.
