3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
No but my CAI is out of 3" aluminum heater tube. This thing doesn't melt and it flex so it's fine when the engine rocks. And you can bend it anyway you like.
For PVC or any hard pipes, get some couplers and clamps to attach the pipes, you might want to get an elbow couple for the bend. I believe 5sfe intake is 2.5" so if you go 3" you need an 2.5" to 3" adapter at the throttle body.
I've got a 3" short ram...I think anyway. And I lost torque. You may try for a slightly smaller diameter...my opinion anyway. People will say there's no difference in drivability but I did notice a torque loss.

It's typically used for making snorkels on jeeps all the time, so no reason it wouldn't work.
I've been thinking of either changing the intake of where it is now and bringing it down and more forward to take in fresh cold air. or re-route it altogether using the stock airbox and have it come straight through the hood in, but not found right now of cutting my hood up for it to work. Is doable though.
PVC is bad to make into intake tubing. Something about heating it up, chemicals blah blah blah. Here is what I did. I first used dryer duct and made a CAI into the bumper. Now I am upgrading and using
tubing for the main part of the intake and still using the dryer duct for any place where i need it to bend.
Just make sure you make a true cold air intake into the bumper, if you make a warm air intake like a short ram, it will suck warm from the engine comparment instead of from the outside.
BTW remove that mtx sticker, idk where you live but back in THE D its just asking for your car to get broken in.

but i like to build stuff, so ill probably use the tubing
yea the mtx sticker was kind of a joke, just to make it not look like i got in an accident ( i repainted the hood a different color cuz the paint was bad, and i didn't want to try and match the paint) maybe ill do some subtle stripes or something

That looks like a short ram intake. You need an intake that goes atleast into the fender.

if you look at my cardomain, you'll see the setup i have now on page 5 http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2990324/5
so i was just going to add the pipe from the intake manifold to the air filter box, and i may use the stock shaped filter, or a conical one inside the stock box.
i don't know which is better, so for now ill stick with the stock shaped one unless someone suggests otherwise.
