Cleaning seats

A little help please for a new person,
Since the upholstery is fairly easy to remove from the seat frames, I was wondering if any one has washed theirs in a washing machine. There is a laundry place in town that has huge machines that can wash rugs and big items. I thought that this would clean them better than using sprays or cleaning machines. The big washing machines tumble the stuff inside, so it would not be twisting the covers. They also have the same size drycleaning machine.
I was just wondering if anyone has done this and what were the results.

BTW..The stains are tomato juice ( bloody mary)

I've never done this. Upholsterers don't seem to recommend this. However, I've heard of people doing this and I did something similar with my couch. The main trick is to use cold water and not to put the fabric in the drier. I have also heard that it might help to put the damp fabric back on the seat before it dries so that it can't shrink too much to get it back on. I would also encourage you to get the tomato stain out first and then laundering it.

Kep,
Thanks for the advice. I did not think about the fabric shrinking, so cold water it is.

Probably alot ezer to rent a steam cleaner and leave the covers on the seats...u'll be in deep trouble if they won't go back on....personally I wouldn't chance it.

But please post back about results if u decide to do that.
