The factory system doesn't have a shock sensor. I believe the glass-breakage sensor was optional. So at a minimum, the alarm will go off if someone opens the door without disarming the system. I hope someone else can give you more information, as I'm not sure if back in 2000 the VIP system came with a starter kill. Of course, if you've got a chipped key then that's another layer of protection from someone actually driving off with your car.

You can tell if your key is chipped (has a transponder in it) because it's thicker and fatter than other keys. And your valet key would be gray instead of a different shaped metal key. I think only the gen 4 XLE Camrys came with chipped keys, not sure if the V6s did like the gen 5.

One thing you can try.. Is put the windows down, close all the doors and lock it with the remote. Wait 30-60 seconds and then reach in, unlock and open the door on the inside. The alarm will go off. Try and start your car. If it has a starter kill it shouldn't start. To turn the alarm off just press unlock on your remote.

An aftermarket alarm is usually the best. They have a shock sensor and you can customize it any which way you want. Some go all out and have a backup battery siren installed along with a hood and trunk sensor.

From what I've found is the 2000 Camry came with the option of factory keyless entry only system. The transponder chip was std on XLE and available on the LE. I don't believe the security system ever came factory, needed to be dealer installed. As far as the gbs sensor, if you look under your dash, you should see a 2 1/2" square black box separate from the vip 3200 module that is directly behind your fuse box door next to the steering column. There should also be a microphone spot next to the blinky light. If you don't have a GBS sensor, the alarm only activates via door locks. Any really good thief could steal your car, even if you have an aftermarket high quality one. I am probably going to be adding the rs3200 plus to mine when I get some cash. I don't want to mess with the factory keyless entry and it's super easy to install, just plug n play. If you don't have factory keyless entry, then you would have needed the regular rs3200, connects different.

Of course. A determined thief will find a way to steal your car if they have to tow it away.

I went with an aftermarket system because it was the same price as the factory system. I've got a shock sensor, starter kill, and a pin switch for my trunk. If the factory system was significantly cheaper I probably would have gone that route. I know I can't stop a thief but I am looking to slow them down.

I also use an brake lock. Slightly more effective than 'the club'
