My frankenstien weapon r cold air intake

I got a weapon r intake for free and had to adapt it for my camry.

At first i just put the filter on right after the MAF, but like people have said with a short ram intake, i had a low-end torque loss.

So i quickly had to make a CAI. I went to home depot and got some dryer tubing. That worked alright but I needed something removible since I have emissions test now.

So I went to JCwhitney.com and got a 180 degree bended steel tube. But after cutting it, I realized I couldnt fabricate the engine bay part of the CAI without buying more tubing. So I reused the part of the old weapon r intake and got a piece of pvc tubing to connect the MAF sensor. And thats how i have ended up with what I have.

The old weapon r intake makes way to sharp of a turn, later on I will remake that part of the intake. But a plus of reusing the old intake is that I didnt need to use a L bracket or anything to secure the intake. The weight pushs it down right at the MAF sensor location which is wear its already touching the body.

I still need to go to home depot and buy a proper adapter to connect the 2 breather hoses. Plus the pvc rubber clamp tubing with the red stuff was too big, so i had to cut that tubing to make it fit. Later one I will get a brand new tube that hasnt been cut and is already the right size. Plus the weapon r filter is cheep, I'll buy a K&N one soon.

Oh and heres a cool pic of my rims. They arent black, they arent sliver and they arent chrome.

That's pretty sick!

I still gotta do mine.

Noticed more power out of the CAI over the SRI?

the cai is better in the low to mid rpm range, while the sri is beter in the high. Thats why the SRI sucks for daily driving.

IDK if its better then stock but its better then troque loss i had with a SRI.

Cool, then I gotta set it up ASAP.

Sick of stepping on the pedal at a stoplight and getting almost one sec of drop off before my engine goes.

Still sounds pretty cool?

or keep it and convert it. Its better having something to work with then starting from scratch.

And yes it still sounds cool. I wont like I think the dryer tubing made the best noise tho, lol

hah nice, how did the dryer tubing sound??

What I'm gonna do is extend my SRI to the grill, or the wheel well, we'll see.

thats really weird. i havent noticed anything in the low end torque drop. if there was somehting it had to be really subtle. i'll prolly keep mine the way it is but i'll def give you props for figurin this out.

becareful when you do that. My intake came with a ram kit to extend it down into near the bumper and it says you have to take it out when it rains (thats exagerating IMO, but they just say that because they dont want you to suck up water. if you suck up the water it'll fly up your intake and into yoru manifold, eventually the engine. getting water in there = bad! hahah so just becareful with what you do.

::edit::

i wonder if i didnt experince torque loss because i have the secret weapon one. it uses essentially two pipes in one. (sorta) this is to create less pressure in the intake/engine. i think its boyles law or some other stupid physics law that says pressure and volume and inversely related. meaning if the intake helps create a lower pressure, than the engine will have a greater air volume, thus being more efficent. that could be why i dont experience it, or it could have nothing to do with it. but i suppose thats a small tidbit of info about intakes haha

Yeah, I've heard a lot about hydrolocking as an issue.

BUT it doesn't rain much down here, and it wouldn't really suck up much water where I want it to go.

Thanks for the reply though.

I think the gen 3 would be one of the best cars to install a CAI into. I've seen other cars with CAI and usually the filter is right next to the ground because inside the engine compartment their is no hole for cold air to enter. (think gen 4) This leaves it totally exposed to a puddle of water. On the gen 3 you have that hole into the bumper allowing cold air to enter, so you still get the proectetion of the black plastic bellow the filter and next to the wheel.
