hood blanket

My 92 5sfe doesn't have the hood blanket. Is this a problem with heat and the hood?? also does the blanket keep the noise inside?? I would like to get one anyway.

thanks,
Adam

I was thinking of taking mine off, actually. Unless taking it off would mess up something.

I believe it's primary function is to reduce noise transmitted to the apssenger compartment. What modle Camry do you have? Many of the base models don't have them. I had a generation 1 1986 Camry DX (base model) that didn't come with it new from the factory. Maybe some people with base models from other generations can confirm that.

My 92 LE doesn't have one either. I read somewhere that the hood blanket is there to suppress engine fires. The plastic plugs holding them on are supposed to melt under high heat so that the blanket can drop down and help smother the fire.

I think it is just there to help protect your hood's paint and reduce engine noise a little bit.

Do you mean the hood insulator underneath the hood? I was actually looking at one last week at the wreckers. Was the only one I've come across, and was on the I4. Was comparing it to the V6, but I don't know if it would fit as the engine comes up higher.
Front shroud is still something I'm trying to find. Haven't seen one yet!

Not having one, I have nothing to go by, but it does make sense it would to some extent.

I had an engine fire in my other car ( non-Toyota ) and the blanket burned also. The alternator locked up and the belt caught fire and threw the flaming rubber into the blanket. I used a few beers to put the fire out.
