3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
so this should be fairly simple answer for someone. My amp gets power and powers on, although there is no sound on the subs, capacitor works, fuses are all ok, replaced the speaker wire, ground wires, high to low converter, everything but the amp pretty much. I did this once before and magically, it worked. If the speaker wire is too small, it should still work right? anyways, any ideas on whats up with the amp? I pulled it apart, and all of the circuits look good, nothing blown or anything...

Have you tried to connect another speaker to the amp to test that it's the amp, and not the sub? It could even be the speaker wires that have burned out(unlikely, but it's possible). Also check the settings on the amp.
Believe it or not...I like (yes i know...like) the stock stereo in my camry. I am using the stock amp and head unit with speakers all around...and it sounds great! lol, so im too reluctant to change it...not to mention, it fits real well...
So anyway... A high to low converter is a converter that makes a speaker level output a low level output...so the amp can read it and then send electricity to the subs...
do scion head units (1st gen) fit directly to gen 4's?

if ur in newport coast i can drive buy and help you inspect your system. Maybe swap out parts from my car to make sure your car is working, etc. BTW i installed a really good sound system into my car, 1 alpine, 2 rockford amps, 4 component speakers, 2 mtx subs.
BTW I am thinking ur problem is either that high/low convertor or the amp.

Ah so like a clean sweep. You should really get a new headunit, you can do so much more! Check out Pioneer I love mine, but hey, I had the cheap stock one with a fubar tape player so I NEEDED a new one. BAD.
my tape player actually gets good sound ::tail between my legs::
lol...but ya, im at newport coast and san juaqin, I have 2 high/lows now, both worked, both now not working (if you get what im saying), so its gotta be something with the amp im assuming...its 150 W RMS x 2, and the subs are 150 W RMS (2 of them), is that asking too much of the amp maybe, and blew it?

stock is alright
but when you can bump enough to wake people up at night or vibrate their wall..thats even better..imo but it all depends on what you prefer. if you like stock then dont mess with it. but it looks like its not working so..i would go to an audio shop and make them take a look at it..without charge of course. while your at it, look for a new deck and think about getting one if you got the money for it. things like audio dont come cheap. you pretty much get what you pay for..i learned the hard way.
i seen scion head units on a gen 3 somewhere on the forums
double check all your fuses, your wiring, and all your speakers. worst case scenario, you kiled your amp.
do you know how much the stock amp is running?
