3rd Generation 4 door rear windows question.

ok i know this is a stupid question but who knows maybe a easy mod! ok so as everyone knows, the rear windows stop at a certain area as a child/animal lock kinda thing :P. My question is can u take out that stopper or w/e is holding it there so the rear windows come all the way down like the driver and passenger windows?

Thanks in advanced!

Chris

Interesting. Never gave it much thought myself.

Have you gone inside the door to take a look? I'd see if the track goes all the way down like the fronts do. If they do, then see if there's something on the track that stops it from going further, like the metal being 'punched' slight or a bolt of some sort.

Look at the door section at wheel well, that may be the limit of travel.

Is that license plate in the signature legal? Anyway, be sure to post back with what you find, if it's an easy fix I'll take out the "safety" stop. Especially since my kids are in seatbelts when they are in my car, I want the window to be able to go down all the way.

I've had all my door panels open from time to time to put in new speakers, pop out dents, replace power window motors, etc. The rear windows can't go down any further than they already do without extensive modification.

Here is how the power windows work. On each side of the window, there is a track which keeps the window aligned. Then in the center there is a regulator and motor. Here is what it looks like:

On the left you see the motor. On the right you see the regulator. On the middle of the regulator you see the piece that attaches to the bottom of the window. This piece is attached to a cable which the motor pushes and pulls. When this piece reaches the bottom, the window cannot go further. I guess if you had access to a fantastic metal and fabrication shop, you could lengthen the regular. But then you would need to lengthen the cable and the alignment track.

So to put it short, no it is not possible.

don't you have to take the window out to replace the motor?

Not for the front you don't, I just had to replace that part above today on my driver side front window.
