3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Long Story short, a trip to Big 10 tires for a 4 wheel aligment and 3600.00 later my 2000 Camry LE has a new (40,000 miles) engine in it. It really got me to thinking though, the car has 136,000 miles on it right now, what else would be good to replace right now. I am looking at having the suspension overhauled with new rims and tires, Also looking at having some KYB-G2's put on. On the Struts do I only need the 4 for each corner? And then the 4 Springs? Are there any other parts I need to go along with them? Thanks
The car was taken in for a 4 wheel alignment, less than a mile down the road the engine started knocking, threw a rod and when we got it to the shop on Friday, there was no oil in the engine. My guess is Big 10 drained the oil, realized it was not supposed to get an oil change and just plugged it back up. I checked the Oil on Monday and it was full, on Wednesday it went to Big 10 and Wednesday night after leaving the shop it was empty. Very coincidental if you ask me, but of course Big 10 claims they did nothing. I have already talked to an attorney and unless the tech comes forth and admits what happened I am kinda screwed. Another funny thing is that tech no longer works there. On the 2nd post, I would like to stay as close to OEM as possible. This is a family car and taken on 600-700 mile trips every few weeks so ride comfort is the most important to me.
hmm...id a burned the place to the ground by now. then springs just get OEM ones and shocks you can go with monroe or the KYB gr2s. the gr2s are slightly stiffer but still close to OEM. the monroes are basically OEM.
I will be replacing my struts in my 4.5 in the future. How much stiffer are the Tokico's? I'd hate to put them in and find that they ride way too rough.
