Engine coolant temperature something

Is the engine coolant temperature "switch" the same as the engine coolant temperature "sensor"? It's located near the bottom of the rad.

and is it the thing that (by way of) the ECU tells the solenoid on the power steering pump to open and close?

My Chilton's is worse than useless. Would a Hayne's be better?

Engine temp sensor is for informing ECU/ PCM etc for fuel mix, engine timing, shift points(maybe) and so on.

The Coolant Temperature switch is for turning the rad fan on/off, like in a traffic jam.

There's a switch for that? I had to make a switch for mine when it stopped automatically coming on.

The Temperature controlled Fan Switch has been known to fail either way, Fan not operating when the coolant(engine) is too hot, or Fan keeps running, even after ignition is turned off.

The coolant temperature sensor on the radiator controls the signal to the PCM for the hydraulic fan. The coolant temperature sensor on the engine sends the signal to the PCM for the operating mixture'

Thanks............ where on the radiator? I keep looking but can't see the sensor. I'm looking for a cylindrical thing screwed into the rad (??) with two wires coming from it.

Sorry John,

Disregard my previous post. On the V-6 the hydraulic fan is controled by "The solenoid valve (which) is controlled by the cooling fan ECU in accordance with the engine rpm, engine coolant temperature and A/C signals."
