cap and rotor

I would like to change this on my 92 camry. Can anyone tell me what a good brand of cap and rotor is good for the car?? Also is there a DYI for replacing these components??

This is an easy DIY. The best cap & wires are the Toyota OEMs. I just get the cheapest lifetime replacement wires from Auto Zone and replace them every other year or when necessary. If you still have the original wires then they probably need to be replaced. However, once you remove the old set you can check their resistance to make sure that they are bad (or not). The resistance of each wire and the center contact of the cap should be less than 20,000 ohms.

To get to the cap & wires, gently disconnect the spark plug connections (pull the rubber cap, not the wire itself) (Sometimes the rubber boots at the plug end stick in the tube. A wire coat hangar bent into a hook will usually fish these out.) remove the air intake hose, unscrew the three bolts holding the cap to the distributor body (careful not to drop these they are a pain to find after they drop. A nut driver worked on mine.). Gently wiggle the cap and it should break free. There is a gasket to keep track of but you can reuse it.

If the resistances are within spec you can reuse the old wires. If not, use the replacements.

I've always used Toyota caps and rotors, as they aren't a whole lot more expensive than aftermarket.

I've had two bad experiences on my Camry with Autozone plug wires. The first set lasted about 12k miles before they started to leak spark thru the plug boots. I could see carbon arc traces on the boots in numerous places and the engine idle was very rough. I got a new set under their lifetime warranty and they lasted about 15k miles; same problem. I'd had enough of that so I threw the AZ wires in the trash and replaced them with a set of Autolite wires, which are still on the car after about 80k miles. YMMV
