3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
As the title implies, I have issues with the stereo in my 1999 Camry. As I was driving, I was listening to music, there was some static and all my speakers went dead. MY first assumption was that I blew the speakers (as my music tends to be loud), but I highly doubt I blew all my speakers at once (as my musics is not that loud). The stock radio switches radio stations, plays the CD, and whatnot...but there is no sound coming from the speakers. When I slam the trunk shut, there is some music for a brief second, but then everything goes away. The stereo is stock Toyota, but the speakers are aftermarket Inifinity speakers, but I had them installed 6 years ago and I have never had a problem until now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you think the speakers are still good, then buy a new headunit.
If you want to spend a lot of time and effort, you could remove each speaker. Go into another car, remove one speaker, then hook up each speaker from your car. One by one, to test if they are still good.

I figured it out...The right/rear speaker went dead, so for some apparent reason, all 6 spekaers would not work. When I disconnected the malfunctioning speaker, I was able to get music through the other speakers. So, what I was wondering is why did one dead speaker prevent sound from going to the other speakers? Are the speakers connected in a series circuit? thanks for the help

Thats strange. I woudln't think that if a speaker went dead, it would cause everything else to die.

no each speaker is connected to the headunit or amp. SO i would say thats just a safety feature.
