4th Generation My car is haunted...

...not really but it does have a wierd mechanical problem.

When my front passenger door is opened all the door lock once then unlock and then lock again. I don't even know where to begin pin-pointing the problem

How it is supposed to work is when the key is in the ignition and the passenger door is opened and shut, it is supposed to UNLOCK all the doors.

I dear say you are up for replacement of the central door locking system.... (they aren't cheap, mine set me back $200 for a second hand from a doner car....) I'd suggest you ask an auto electrician to disconnect the original and put in an aftermarket one with a remote .. wish i'd thought of that when my own packed up.

Do you already have an aftermarket alarm system or an aftermarket remote lock/unlock system already installed on the car? If so, that's where I would start looking. Many of these systems have been installed by technicians who are not the best and may have done some shoddy wiring. Really just a guess on my part.

Yea, I never knew this happened until I got the car. When I open and shut the front doors with the key still in the ignition, the doors automatically unlock. I suppose it's to prevent people from accidentally locking themselves out.

The keys aren't in the ignition when this happens. The car does not have keyless entry either. It has power doors and windows but none of the keyless entry or remote lock in place. I know it is suppose to happen when you try to lock the doors and the key is in the ignition. But all the time?

I'd pull the harness that goes into the door out and inspect the wires. Some of the wires could be snapped and crossing.

How exactly do you check this?
Dou you have to remove the door panel?

Yeah. The harness snaps in right where it comes through the body. You'll need a multimeter and test every wire while wiggling it to check for breaks. Wiggle it where it usually bends.
