P0115 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Malfunction Trouble

Hi all

Im new here and already have received alot of help for my VSV problem from just searching the site however I have a new code, P0115 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Malfunction, an I'm not really sure how to tackle this one. Should I just replace the coolant temp sensor or are there other known problems associated with this. Also, I dont have the egr insufficent flow code anymore but my car still dies and misses at times could this be causing the problem?

Thanks

can you tell a little more info. about your car? what model, year, 2.2L, 5sfe engine and how many miles on the car?

when is the last time you change out your spark plugs, spark plug wires, distrubutor?

will the car crank run ok then died or it only crank when cold engine but not HOT (NORMAL TEMP)?

when you car run, is the temp. gauge went high as normal? was the car temp gauge go up when the car run?

Sorry the car is a 1997 Camry 4cyl automatic 120,XXX miles. I just changed the plugs but havent done the wires ... Generally I have no problems starting the car when cold... However, say if it dies at a stop light after running for awhile it can be hard to start every once and awhile, but has always started thus far. The car is pretty erratic on when it dies sometimes it will just begin to miss on the highway and then I will come to a light and it just dies, other times it will be fine and I'll come to a stop light and without warning it dies. The temp gauge sits at its normal position the whole time it runs.

here is the links you can download
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=497839
to check out the resistance of your spark plugs wires...

I have another question for you... When the car died at stop light, was the car run to normal temp..gauge (hot for 20 mins/2 mins) then the car died... If it died, are you experienced hard to start the car back up? Or it only died when the engine coldl?

go the link above and start download your car manual...then start check resistance of your spark plugs... I double it's your spark plug wires....

Also, when you're on the highway... the car start died suddenly... WAS the car start to shaking (like loose power) then died or the car starts experience shaking then it died suddenly?

Was your positive and negative battery cables have corrussion around both battery terminals?
If you have currussion build up, take a toothpaste brush (make sure the one that you use then throw away when you done cleaning up) clean around both terminals.... loose the negative battery cable, then use your toothpaste brush to clean... then tight negative cable back ... then do the same way as your positive terminal cable...

one you're done... Try crank again to see the the problem go away... If not post back..then we can proceed next step in troubleshooting...

First of all thanks for your help. I will check the wires for sure, I have the repair manual. I just put a new battery in and cleaned the terminals so they should be fine. The car cold starts fine, the only time it gives me trouble is when I have done a long highway drive or something like that but it is pretty erratic and happens at different times. When the car begins missing it does do what you say it pops and begins to loose power: Example one time when missing I could push the pedal all the way down and all I got was a bunch of popping and missing but then it all of a suddens catches and runs ok (if that makes sense). The car basically does different things sometimes I will be driving on the highway and it will start missing really bad and I will come to a stop light and it will just die. Sometimes it will run fine on the highway and then just die when I come to the first light without any signs of problems. If there is anything else you think of that maybe causing let me know. I hope my description is clear enough.

On a side note how can I get rid of my P 115? Any suggestions for that.. the biggest problem is the constant dying at lights it basically just happens at idle or when coming to a light/stop. It just misses on the highway or at cruising speeds, and I can usually jam the gas down and it will finally catch up and run.

1) your body throttle could be dirty and prevent throttle to open to max air flow in your throttle

If I were you, try to search on this forum for details how to clean the body throttle... It will helps your car died suddently because the body throttle prevent open/stuck air flow in your body throttle...

Buy yourself carbonator can from autozone and clean out your body throttle...do a search on this furum.

About P115 code...

Is your car temp. guage run above NORMAL when the car running? when you turn on your A/C, does your two fans run or just one? one fan is A/C (left) and other is cooling fan (right)... if you stand face toward the engine)... If one of the cooling fan doesn't work, then your temp. gauge move beyond the NOrmal..when your car is running. when you turn on A/C, both fans should run...

Ive cleaned the throttle body...

I just would like to know how to stop it from dying at stop lights? Or if anyone else has had this problem how they fixed it? Could it be caused by my P115?
