A/C and normal air smell

Hello all

I noticed a few weeks ago my car's air (both fan and A/C) started acquiring a nasty sour smell. It isn't too bad yet, but definitely is noticeable.

I'm going to check the cabin air filter first, but don't know where it is, can anyone point me in the right direction?

What other problems could it be other than things growing on the filter? It shouldn't be doing that since it's a California summer (bone dry).

There are no cabin air filters in the gen3/3.5 Camrys. the smell is mildew on the A/C core.

Hi,

Many Camrys about 96 or so develop an oil leak from the cam cover or distributor shaft seal, or both. This oil can find its way onto the exhaust, and produces a smell through the vent system into the interior.

Check this out also, by looking for oil around the exhaust piping.

Cheers
