Check engine light on 2000 Camry

Hi, new member here. Just bought a 2000 camry and already encountering problems. Check engine light came on and after scanning came up with trouble codes P1130 and P1135. After researching I found that these codes relate to the A/F sensors, P1130 is for range/performance and P1135 is for the heater circuit. Both codes said that the problem was with 'Bank 1 Sensor 1'.
I bought the new sensor (Calif. emissions) and my mechanic put it in. After resetting the codes and driving for 15 mins the check engine light came back on. Another scan revealed that the P1130 code is still there but the P1135 code seems to be gone. What I need to know now is was I wrong about it being only 1 sensor and the scanner is wrong for listing only 1 location along with a number of websites i checked? Is it possible that I need to replace another sensor, perhaps the one in the back. My mechanic said that it may be that the new sensor he put in was faulty and to go back and he'll try another one. Does anyone know how many A/F sensors there are on a 2000 camry, american built and what the locations are and what each one does? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are reading the codes correctly, but your post makes me think you replaced the wrong sensor. On your engine, bank 1 is at the rear of the engine bay, in the manifold closest to the firewall. Bank 2 is in the front nearest the radiator. Did your guy replace the wrong sensor?

Qslim, that was one of my first thoughts, that maybe I replaced the wrong sensor however that doesn't explain how I got rid of one of the trouble codes.
Unless after erasing the trouble codes they stay gone for some time but eventually do come back.

So did you replace the wrong sensor or not?

The 1135 code you had may have been intermittent, so when you reset the memory the computer didn't see the heater circuit malfunction right away. In any case, bank 1 is in the back.

This just took place yesterday so I don't know whether I replaced the wrong sensor or not yet. I'm going to my mechanic again tonight and he's going to try another sensor in the same location. I had already told him that bank 1 might be in the back as I had read so on a couple of websites but he said no bank 1 is in the front and he was told so when he ordered the part. I have also read other websites that say it's in the front so i'm very conflicted here.

I should also mention that I was told by a Toyota Rep. in the parts department of my local dealer that bank 1 sensor 1 is the front sensor.

I believe you. Counter people don't fix the cars, though.

Well if the other trouble code comes back again or the mechanic says there's nothing wrong with the sensor he put in then i will definitely try replacing the one in the back. Trouble is I think the mechanic threw the sensor he removed in the garbage and now i'm thinking that it could have been a working one.
