Key broke in ign lock

The key broke in the ignition lock cyl. on my brothers 1996 Camry,

He tried to turn the key with a channel locks pliers
It would not turn so It did not work, that were it broke

It is there way to start the car ? How would I remove the broken key?

How hard is to remove the lock cyl? Does the steering wheel have come off, In the haynes books it says you need a the cyl to be in the acc postion, but the lock will not turn, so what can I do?

Man what a bad day yesterday, if you live in Chicago, you know the rain storm yesterday. It happened at around 10 pm,
The good thing the car was close to my house. We had towed home
Good thing for autostores that are open until 12 am.

It is flush, and it a small piece. No need on calling the locksmith because the lock does not work, Even if he remove the broken key, how would turn the car on? The lock does not even move.

Lock smith should be able to fix the cylinder

Oh and a general rule of thumb, with the exception of stuck bolts where a breaker bar is a lifesaver, if it ain't turning when it should, applying excess force is not a good idea. I don't think the ignition cylinder and key were meant to be turned by a grown man yanking on channel locks... Now instead of having a stuck cylinder you have a stuck cylinder with a key stuck inside of it, requiring a new key and extra work to fix the cylinder. More force on stuck stuff is usually bad juju.

is the steering lock engaged? if the key is visible you should try small allen keys to pry the thing out. it'll work just try. I've never heard of an ignition key siezing up( spelling?) but I know its time for a new one. the smith can fix it for you so you don't have to spend money making anothher key off a donor car at a scrap. it'll probably be cheaper. but if you get the key out try different lubricants and another spare key. just be careful! anyways is this a stolen car?

My brother bought the cyl, the lock had problems before, it was hard to turn, but he got to work, man this car has bad luck,
first the radiator went out, and the that bottle for the antifreeze
then the transmission goes out/
And no the car is not stolen

I just removed the key with two picks, and put another copy of the key, it started, and I moved the car to
back my house, I also put a new lock, it was easy
First i disconnected the neg cable, then waited 2 minutes
Remove the cover (10mm bolts
Put the old lock in acc, used a long pick and the lock came out.
