3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
This is a pic of the interior for the Lexus LF-C concept would that or would that not look completely sick as the center console in a 3rd or 4th gen camry :P... *dreaming* --- contemplating the practicality of making such a mod... probabbly a ton of time learning how to bend acrylic using torches without scorching the material... no clue how the shift boot works, if there is one... cant really tell...
*edit*...any ideas as to how to accomplish this effect?*end edit*

thanks for the confidence but if it were done i don't think that it would look retarded, its a totally different standpoint.... anyway the only thing that makes it an "Old car" would be the engine tranny and suspension...
the idea of Retrofitting projectors could be used for retrofitting the entire car... eg updating the tech. why would someone waste 30k on a brand new car when they can take 5k and upgrade everything in the old car including rebuilding the engine?...
i see people on this forum posting "dont do it its not worth the money, you can buy <insert car name here> for less than that" ... i dont need to buy some other car if i own this one and am content on modifying it... so the question remains, as far as updating old tech. to new tech. would this mod look good in a 3rd or 4th gen camry?
rebuilding the tranny would be like $1k at the shop max rebuilding the engine might take $2k and redoing the suspension would take less than $2k if you know what your doing... where does the way over 5k come into play? (i even highballed the engine rebuild and suspension)
anyway, yes the all work to my car is done by myself or in the case of a port and polish which should be coming soon :/... a professional ... which they are where you end up spending the money..
that would bug the shit out of me if it was on while driving. it would be cool if it lit up whe ya had the doors open though. if your careful, you can get plexi glass to form with some heat.
im not sure, but could it be done with a clear resin and a clear hardener? or it mught just end up looking foggy... of course youd need a mold to do it that way...
the idea was to get a hand torch and some leather gloves and some Plexiglas (eg acrylic for light transfer) using the stock center console as the basis for a mold, some foam to make the basic underside shape , eg a space below the clear part to be painted (made out of fiberglass) the only sad thing is that my cam is AUTO atm so it would be... meh.... a pain unless i can take this little snooker 9ball i have and drill the middle to make the shifter button and move the "hold" button (or whatever it is, O/D button) to the bottom... b/c not only is the light/clear a defining feature but the shifter ball is too :/
then once the plexi is molded to the shape i want cutting scores that help displace the light and running enough LED's with resistors to make the effect in full...
Guys when i have the money eg next week sometime i think im gonna try to do it even if it means buying a hand torch or heat gun .
i was starting to ponder using an acid etch kit once the piece is molded to make a distinguishing mark to say that i did it
and depending on difficulty offer my services to you guys if interested , just waiting till next friday to have alittle cash to throw around at the idea. (waiting on payday sucks)
