White puffs on start up

Key turns, engine cranks and muffler smokes out some white puffs(only on cold start) and they go away a second later. What should I check on now?

If it's white puffs with a blueish tint to them, it's oil that is making it's way past worn valve guide seals. If that's the case, it's really not at big deal. No need to replace them right now. Just monitor your oil consumption. Unless oil consumption get's excessive, I wouldn't be alarmed. This is pretty common on older Toyotas.

If it's pure white puffs, then it's just condensation as MR E said.

Like he said, worn valve guide seals. Common with ALL older engines. Hard to believe on a 99, however. Keep your oil level up and keep driving. I found Valvoline Max Life helped on my old GMC pickup.

If valve seals the amount and length of smoking may get worse over time. If so the fix is new seals.
