a/c electrical problem

I have a 1996 camry 2.2. The a/c relay is not energizing, when I jump out the relay contact it works fine. The relay coil is not getting a ground from the a/c amplifier term. #12 and the ground wire between the relay and the #12 term is always hot when the key is turned on even with both ends disconnected. I know I have a short in the engine harness between the a/c amplifier and the a/c relay. Anyone ever have a similar problem? Any spot on the engine harness prone to shorts? Trans. is also slipping on take off but if you place it in L1 it doesn't slip which leads me to believe its an electrical problem.

If you know you have a short and where it's located why not just rewire around the short. Are you sure the low pressure switch has not tripped because of low refrigerant?

Yes I have jumped it out and I'm sure my low pres. switch is not kicking out. I've been using the a/c with a jumper. My experience is that one short in the wiring harness usually leads to other problems. I'm not looking for a/c advise. I'm asking to see if anyone has had a short in their engine harness so I can narrow it down.
