The battery in remote entry unit ran out...

Like 5 years ago. Never got around to investigating. Can i replace the battery or buy a new unit?

The unit has one button and can only lock/unlock the car. What options do i have? I read the sticky but it didnt mention anything about my type of unit.

The car is a 99 (iirc) Camry Conquest.

i dont know that you have walmart there but any super store type place tends to keep those type of batteries near the photo lab area, and it shouldn't be too hard to replace the batteries then again if the key fobb thing got damaged in the 5 years? you haven't used it then theres a chance you would just want to replace the alarm system *easy enough theres tons of tutorials and many options for alarms (just be careful when it comes to the kill switch and always unhook the battery when you work on the electrical system )*

I want to say yes you can replace the battery, but this is assuming that the battery hasn't leaked and ruined the insides.

You'll need to open it up to find out the type of battery you need.

As touringcamry suggested, check the inside of that remote for damage done by a leaking battery. Batteries have a tendancy to leak when they get very weak. If that's OK, most systems come with 2 remotes. Do you have a second remote and does that one work? If so, just switch the 2 batteries and try it. Chances are it will work just fine. If you don't have a second remote/battery, then go buy a new battery and install it. That's the easiest thing to do.

there should be a coin battery inside, like a 2032 size and be 3V.

it would be cheapest to look inside for fluffy white crystals, or green corrosion and then decide from there. If your remote has not been remembered by the car, then the rolling code feature will need to be reset and 'new' remote code relearnt.

Ok so from the comments ill assume the battery is replaceable and toyota doesnt try force you to buy a new unit

As for the relearning, how would i go about that if it comes to that? Do i find my ECU and apply one of the guides in the sticky except for my one button remote?

One button remote? You sure that's Toyota item? They generally have at least 3 buttons.

It should work right after you change the battery. No programming involved.
