3rd Generation Tune-up & Stuff

Holy crap! On my 95 Camry DX coupe of only two weeks, kind of proud of myself (because I'm basically a loser) of what I've done so far. Did crankcase Seafoam and oil change. Seafoam in the first full tank (gas filler tube leaks, any advice there?). Changed the engine strut mount, which was trashed, and upgraded to Gen 4 mount. Today did upper respiratory (brake booster) Seafoam, Gunked engine bay, cap, rotor, plugs and wires.

Now, on the distributor cap, had a bitch of a time getting at the mounting screws. Ended up removing the thing that hangs off the air cleaner tube (slam me for not knowing what it is) so I could get a long enough screw driver in there. Somebody will now tell me I'm a dumba$$ because I could have done ____ and gotten them off easily.

So, with the upper Seafoam, had quite the cloud of smoke. Did my 40k mile Camaro SS a while back and didn't have much smoke, so even though I had read all the posts about smoke I was still a little surprised. I'm thinking I did a good thing for my lil' 2.2.

Rotor, cap, wires, plugs were all pretty toasty, can't believe the thing was still running pretty well. It's all good now.

I can see why y'all get hooked on these things. I still have some suspension stuff to do. Bad clunk from rear over bumps and stuff. Got one CV leaking. Need front brakes. All doable though, for a great little ride.

Just wanted to share.

Congrats! You've done quite a bit to greatly extend the life of your car. Keep lavishing that kind of attention on it like that, and it will not let you down.

How many miles does it have on the odometer?

My 96 LE 2.2 just hit 136K.

Just turned over 207k. Just broken in!! Ha! It's a beater with a heater.

I used Autozone cap, they had Bosch wires at AZ. Got the rotor from Advance Auto, AZ was out. NGK plugs from Advance as well. You can figure out the cap, just takes little cussin'. Maybe a 90 degree angle screwdriver would have helped some, but I got 'er done.

Long live the Gen 3 Camry!!

Wow, compared to you guys, mine is just a baby!

Gtari, I'd get rid of those bosch wires if I were you. Bosch wires are crap. Get a set of NGK wires.
