High Engine RPM before shifting out of 1st

Hi guys
I really need your help as I really want to keep this car.
My problem is that my transmission will not shift out of 1st until the RPMs hit around 3k during slow acceleration, I usually have to let off the gas to force it to shift up. If I do a bit more aggressive acceleration then it wont shift until 4 or 5k. All the other gears 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th shift fine. Also just recently we took the car to a transmission shop to get it repaired cause it was leaking. So they looked at it and concluded that the gaskets and valves were needed to get replaced and a transmission cooler was too be added, and thats when the problems started occuring. so we took it back and they replaced a solenoid the problem went away for a while and it came back just recently. If you guys could give me any insight as to whats going on in my transmission or maybe a solution i would be greatful.
Oh, one last thing. My car is a 1997 Camry LE V6 Auto
Thanks

No i ment transmission cooler.
But since you brought that up I did check the transmission oil and the oil line was sitting just about the forth notch on the dipstick which i assume was Hot Full, but this is a cold engine. So i emptied a bit and now it sits in between the cold empty and full mark.

Your car is fine. also you have to check the transmission oil while the car is on. whats a transmision cooler? isn't that the same as an oil cooler?

Well the thing is that the car never used to do this before. and 4K before shifting to 2nd when the car is cold and warm is very unusual. I initially thought that it was to warm up the car but i distinctly remember that it used to shift to 2nd before it reved that high.
Anyway a transmission cooler is a radiator thats attached to the transmission oil lines to cool the oil as it passes through it.

yeah that what camricer was talking about; a tranny oil cooler. thats wierd that the mech would suggest such a thing considering there should be no need and it would cost a bundle in labor. My car always has never shifted less than 3k while accelerating. if it did it would be trying to make power @ like 1200rpm in second gear. which would suck.

try checking all your cables. mabe you got slack or something somewhere. idk guy, but if you can't live with your gonna be paying some money! have yo checked your car for codes? have you checked yourself for codes? are you tripping out DUDE?
