3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I was looking into swaping my 4 cyl. engine with something that has more power, but i'm not very sure which engine to choose.
I need to know what size engine I can fit into my car (cyl. wise) and which engine from which car out in the market.
Should I stick with a FWD or can is it possible to do AWD

If you want to swap out motors it would be a bit more involved than the first 2 options.
However, the 1MZ-FE should fit in there pretty easily since it was the other engine option.
Swapping a 3S-GTE is possible I believe but that's way over my head and you would want to do a search on the forums about it.
Doing a RWD conversion may be possible (I think I saw one on teamsc3.com a looooong time ago.)
However, I think an AWD conversion is a little bit out there. You could probably get it done if you got the right shop, but money will be your biggest enemy.

yeah, the only way to go would be a camry/avalon v6. after the camry platforms, all the more powerful engines are for rear wheel drive cars (Lexus IS, GS, LS, SC). In Japan, AWD camry models were sold (and you're camry was used for the RWD Mark II). If you can find somebody over there that does that kind of parts trading, and you know some really good custom tranny shop, you might be able to pull it off and use one of the more powerful engines, but you're gonna spend a sh*tload to do it
i don't know if it is possible, but you can probably try, if you don't want to stick with a toyota engine, you can swap the 4 banger for an sr20 from a nissan puslar/sunny and turbo that. or you can try and put a honda nsx engine in there, but hey, i'm not sure of all that is possible.
but anything is possible if you have the dosh.

Dude sticking a Nissan into a Toyota is wrong... Alot of you guys dont know that Toyota and Nissan has had a long time fued. Its like the Fords and the Chevys here...
i figured that's why they put so much $$$ in making the R series skylines - to make the supras look bad, and to out-do the M series engine - Toyota's second best engine after the JZ series

the M series the second best ... Thats a matter of opinoin ... The second best motor would have to be the 3s-gte...

What are you talking about? Nissan's always been dragging their heels behind Toyota and Honda when it comes to sales, and has practically been on the brink of folding for years. Toyota and Honda is the real rivalry. That's like saying that GM and AMC were huge rivals cuz AMC sold a few Gremlins!:p I don't know, maybe I missed something.
Not trying to start shiz, just wondering what you were getting at...
Cheers,
Jeff
