A couple turbo questions

1. How exactly should the oil supply/return system to the turbo bearing be set up? (oil return line to oil pan but where to hook up the oil pressure unit??)

2. What actually involved in "tuning"? How hard it is to wire up a Greddy Blue Emanage to the electric.

3. Any alternative to oil catch can? And front valve cover blow-by tube?

Thanks

not hard to wire up the Emanage .... tuning would basically involve setting a decent-sized list of parameters to ensure that the car is running optimally based on outputs such as air-fuel ratios and whatnot - should be done on a good, calibrated dyno by a shop that knows what they are doing

the catch can is really something you shouldnt skip - you dont have to get a huge or ugly one, but you should definitely get one because those 1MZ's are setup like that from the factory, whereas my 5S doesnt have a line from the valve cover to the intake

I don't think there is any dyno shop around my town so I can do it (tune it) by myself??? I used to program and write web script before, should I be sufficient? And wtf with all the different in

SAFC
FMU
boost controller
wideband sensors
etc....

do I need all that, I'm looking at a reliable 4-8psi setup on .60 trim compressor.

And how about the oil thing? Is turbo oil bearing supposed to be fed off from the oil filter on the block is?

the S-AFC is a piggyback that basically sends signals to the ECU to override the stock inputs ... if you were gonna get a Greddy Emanage, you dont need a piggyback like the S-AFC

FMU = fuel management unit ... basically a secondary fuel regulator, you will probably just need an FPR (fuel pressure regulator) and upgraded injectors & 255lph fuel pump, of course depending on power goals and turbo selection

Boost Controller (manual or electronic) just allows you to set the boost (psi) level by hand, rather than letting it run on the given wastegate spring

Wideband Sensors are just like any other O2 Sensor in your car, but have a higher resolution output so the Wideband A/F Gauge can tell you what the ratio of air-to-fuel is by reading from the exhaust (usually in the downpipe)

read the 5S-FTE sticky threads ... yes, its a different engine thats a bit more needy but it will give you a good sense of what you need, since you will need the same basic electronics

im not sure how thats done for the 1MZ-FE, thats why i havent responded ... i know exactly what to do for the 5S-FE, as you can tap into the block on the front face, use a T and send the line to the turbo

not familiar with the 1MZ block, maybe Eye8Pussies or someone else could give some insight

Well tapping oil pan is for return line, where do I need to tap to to get the pressure oil to send to turbo bearing from? I was thinking the oil filter relocation kit but I need a confirmation.

You' have to put a "T" in at the oil pressure switch. Unlug it, unscrew it, put in the T, screw it back on, attach the oil line to the turbo.

^ exactly. Just sends the oil down another tube from the sending unit. Takes about 10 min with a pretty easy to find part. I got a pre-tapped pan if you're interested...
