Well my Stant 170* thermostat came in today and I thought I would make a Tread out of it. You don't have to use a 170* you can used the oem thermostat too. this is just how to replace a thermostat. Anyone can do this, it's very simple.
here is the thermostat housing we'll be removing.
So here we go:
-things you'll need-
10mm socket
6-8" extension
12mm socket
pair of pliers
step #1
Drain coolant into a clean container. Or floor, driveway, ect.( I don't know how you people live)

I used a big 10gallon steel mixing bowl I got a yard sale for $5.
step #2
This is what we'll be working on.
so use pliers to crimp clip and remove lower radiator hose that goes to the thermostat housing. I used vise grips.
step #3
use a 12mm socket on this bolt.
and a 10mm bolt here. we're taking off the wire harness that holds everything away from the tranny and starter. you know, things that are hot.
unclip the sensor here.
step #4
using a 10mm socket with an extension removed the three nuts for the housing. one is visible the other two are harder to see. but theres three.
Then pull housing out if you can. its a little tricky to get out.
see the disconnected hose here. you can do that too makes things easier.
remove old thermostat.
step #5
take new thermostat.
and put it in sping facing in. man, my stant looks dinky compared to my oem one.
so far you should have this somewhere.
-radiater plug
-old thermostat
-4 10mm nuts
-one 12mm bolt
-radiator cap
now when your putting everything back together remember not to tighten the thermostat housing nuts too tight.
-69 inch lbs. on those. or they'll break!
OK now put everything back and fill your radiator.
finalizing thoughts-
I had a trouble getting to everything with my turbo in the way so it should be a 20 minute job. hope you do it yourself!
EEWWW! I just noticed how dirty my motor is. Plus the paint on my Damn intake is chipped!!!!
