3rd Generation Oil Leak from Distributor

Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone has had an oil leak from the distributor housing on a Gen3 camry. I got under it with a torch, and I think thats where it is coming from.

Was just wondering if it was a common problem and how long a mechanic might take to fix the issue. (or shouldi take it to a stealership?)

When you say "distributor housing" do you mean leaking underneath the dist. cap or from the dist. shaft where it's bolted to the head?

They usually leak from the distributor shaft where it meets the head. This is pretty common as they age. A dealer will charge 1 hour of labor to repair it plus about $4 for the o-ring itself. It will probably take an experienced Toyota tech less than 10 minutes to actually remove the distributor and replace the o-ring.

go toyota get distrubutor O-ring. It'll cost you less than 10 bucks...

THis is an easy fix... before you take the distrubutor out, get a marker mark a line on the distrubutor plastic and on the block (make sure straight line as possible). the line will be your reference when you re-install the distrubutor back. when you re-install, make sure the line on plastic line with the line on block line up (the line you mark with the market). one you get done, type two nuts back.... you're done... this is an easy job...distrubutor are known to leak on toyota after car run around 120k miles.

my 96 camry starts to leak atound 119k miles..then I replaced with toyota O-Ring..distrubutor leaks went away...

go AutoZone and buy yourself car degreeser (liquid in Red). when you start to clean stuff, pull into something that can spray to the dirty spot.. I look for a empty bottle (glass clean) and start pull little into the bottle.

it clean pretty good for dirty spots... even on your car carpet... the trick, you spray onto the dirty spot then use clean paper town to extract dirty stuff...

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, we don't have an autozone in australia. I got the best Degreaser I could find from Supercheap Auto... It lightened the stains a bit..... but they are still there. Any other ideas? I read about kitty litter.... anyone know if that works?

Trisodium phosphate (TSP) Cleans concrete if that's your garage floor.
